JBoss AS 5.0.0.GA versus The Model Is Broken

22:32:04,130 INFO [ServerImpl] JBoss (Microcontainer) [5.0.0.GA (build: SVNTag=JBoss_5_0_0_GA date=200812042120)] Started in 22s:339ms

Java conferences driving the delivery of open source software by commercial companies. The greatest thing since sliced bread. I hope Stuart Cohen did not make a point there when he stated that 'The Model Is Broken'. Is the SLA warning when downloading JBoss software indicating this model glitch? I'm actually afraid for one thing: the paradox "Open-source code is generally great code, not requiring much support" fata morgana. What if companies limit the quality to keep their support contract revenue streams alive? Maybe another reason why not to jump on a new version as soon as it's available. "Commodity usage of commodity software" would make up for a great blog entry.

I will be skipping Devoxx this year, time for some "Java EE what the hell am I doing" self-reflection I guess. Meanwhile we've already pushed out the eID Middleware v3.5, the eID Middleware SDK v3.5 and the eID Quick Installer v1.0 which is also quite fun to help out with. More exiting things on the radar screen within the coming months... difficult do abandon Java EE altogether. So take a shaker, put in Java EE, some eID, and let's see what comes out next. ;)
